VENTURE INWARDS

Retreats are an important part of my treatment model. It’s a way to get an in-person connection, cathartic release, and deep insight into your psychological world. My retreats pull from the full breadth of my practice and you’ll be attending with other members who are walking the same path as you. I’m structuring my retreats off of the Hero’s Journey. By attending each one you’ll take a step through this mythological process and emerge a Hero on the other side!

Crossing the threshold

I’m pleased to announce our first ever Wilderness Men’s Retreat “Crossing the Threshold” The retreat will be on June 2nd-5th in the wilderness outside of Denver, Colorado. Over the weekend we’ll be surviving, exploring, and growing together. I’ll be running it with my good friend and colleague, Eric Dooley-Feldman. Eric is currently getting his Ph.D. in clinical psychology and has been a wilderness guide and therapist for over a decade. He brings his own flavor to the retreat space, he pulls from the Hero’s Journey work by Joseph Campbell and male initiation experiences popularized by Robert Bly.

You will walk away from this weekend with a deeper level of connection, a stronger sense of your masculine self, and healthy male empowerment. I see these retreats as “hunts.” It’s a way for men to bond by overcoming challenges and learning to rely on each other. Over the weekend each of you will be hunting for yourselves, your inner Wild Man, and a sense of brotherhood. This retreat is the first in a planned series that will take the group through the phases of the Hero’s Journey.

The retreat will be entirely self-contained in order to preserve the therapeutic space we are creating. Just like the last retreat, you’ll be asked to leave your cell phones at the trailhead. We will be bringing a GPS unit and satellite communicator for emergencies.

We hope to challenge each of you by asking the questions:
Who are you without your points of reference?
Where does your Wild Man live?
What does it mean to truly trust another man?

The Road of Trials - October 14th-16th 2022

After the success of our first ever Wilderness Men’s Expedition Retreat “Crossing the Threshold,” we have another one in the works – “The Road of Trials.” This Expedition will continue the theme of the Hero’s Journey and encourage you to face the challenges and trials of your life head-on. The retreat will be on October 14th-16th in the wilderness outside of Denver, Colorado. Over the weekend we’ll be surviving, exploring, and growing together.

I’ll be running it with my good friend and colleague, Desmond Cohen. Desmond is a fantastic clinician that blends mindfulness based psychotherapy and depth work with practical tips and research to help clients adapt and thrive in this crazy modern world. One of his specialities is around helping clients develop a healthy relationship with technology and digital interconnectedness. It’s an honor for me to co-facilitate this retreat with him and I’m excited to continue to open my network to all of you.

You will walk away from this weekend with a deeper level of connection, a stronger sense of your masculine self, and healthy male empowerment. These expeditions will be physically challenging and require a healthy level of fitness. By overcoming challenges as a group you’ll bond with the other retreat participants and come to trust and rely on them as brothers.

What are the trials in your life?
How do you respond to challenges and difficulty?
What does it truly mean to take responsibility for your life?

Challenging your Shadow with Rick Tivers LCSW, CGP - November 11th-13th

Back by popular demand! Rick Tivers, my therapist, will be returning to Colorado on  November 11th-13th at the Peaceful Meadow Retreat Center in Boulder. The theme of this year’s retreat is Challenging your Shadow, be prepared for a more guttural experience than last year – now that we’ve successfully piloted the format we are ready to deepen even further.

Rick and I will direct each of you through corrective emotional experiences via active process work in a group setting. These will include some activities tailored for the group as well as a custom process build for each individual member. You will walk away from this weekend with a deeper level of connection, a stronger sense of your masculine self, and healthy male empowerment.

The retreat will cost $1,200 payable upfront or in installments. This includes lodging and meals. We’ll all have dinner on Friday, 3 meals on Saturday, and Breakfast on Sunday before wrapping up the weekend. The retreat will be entirely self-contained in order to preserve the ritual space we are creating, over the weekend we’ll be living, working, and growing together.

We hope to challenge each of you by asking the questions:
What parts of yourself do you push away or bury with shame?
Who would you be if you didn’t have to hide?
What are you afraid of?

As a group we’ll be exploring themes of sexuality, power, internalized shame and other issues that emerge from the group process.
